The beautiful Pamplemousses Botanical Gardens is the the oldest botanical garden in the Southern Hemisphere, its a very popular tourist attraction found in Pamplemousses, just 7 miles from the capital Port Louis. First build in 1770 the gardens cover around 37 hectares, including the breathtaking pond of giant water lilies, on top of this there is a vast array of plants, spices and trees, many of which have been planted by royalty from across the globe. Be sure to look out for the tropical wildlife, including birds, fish and the giant tortoise.
In our opinion it is worth paying around 50 rupee’s to hire a guide, they will explain in detail all of the scenery, plus show you things you would otherwise miss.
Please be aware this attraction involves quite a bit of walking, if this is a struggle for you a Golf cart with driver is available to rent (max 3 people per cart)
