The number of tourists who traveled to Mauritian soil for the month of October reached 130,000, when there were 109 000 for the same period last year. This represents an increase of almost 20%, or about 21,000 more visitors.
“Tourism contributes exceptionally to the growth of the country. An additional 21,000 tourists last October, compared to October 2015, have contributed more than Rs 1 billion to the economy of Mauritius, “said Deputy Prime Minister Xavier-Luc Duval.
With regard to the bar of the million visitors, it has already been crossed. For the tourist arrivals rate, an increase of 10.8% was observed for the period January-October compared to the same period in 2015.
The European market remains the main driver of growth in arrivals. The latter increased by 25% last month, with nearly 80,000 visitors.
Other markets such as Germany (42.7%), the United Kingdom (19%) and France (15%) also contributed significantly to this performance in October. Asia, too, is no exception. Indeed, India shows a growth of 41.6% for last month. South Africa, for its part, is progressing by 15.5%.
